about me

Mackenzie Kozak

I am a mental health counselor and a poet. My education includes a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling as well as a master’s degree in creative writing. In the mental health field, I have experience working with adults who are suffering with the questions and symptoms of living, including grief, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. My passion for language informs my work as a counselor because I have a strong belief in the power of naming. If we are able to share our experiences through the vulnerability of saying what is difficult or what is painful or what is beautiful in our lives, we honor our own stories and we are able to build connections of safety and growth. I am also interested in the use of the written word as a way of processing or making meaning of our experiences, particularly grief. My style is warm, strengths-based, and person-centered.

“…you, who have often made the unnameable
nameable for others, even for me.”
